The 1:72 Italeri Wessex HU5 was completed from the box as XS522 of HMS London’s Ship flight in 1981. I didn’t stretch myself to the Blade cradle, and wish I had now, but am pleased with the overall look and feel of the final model. The kit did require a fair bit of work around the front end to make it all smooth, and the blades were cut, drilled on both sides (rotor head and blade) then all kept together with bent fuse wire. The intake and exhaust covers were made using foil from a butter lid, side aerials from black cotton, and etched metal Eduard RBF tags were added with super glue at the end.
